Bruce A. Campbell Quoted in Lawyers USA

Bruce A Campbell was recently interviewed by Correy E. Stephenson, Esq., Associate Editor of Lawyers USA about whether or not lawyers should represent relatives.

The thing that both lawyers and doctors offer to their clients and patients is objectivity. When you are representing a patient or a client that is a family member, there is a huge risk that you lose that objectivity... For lawyers in small towns, it may also be hard to turn down a relative when the next closest lawyer is 60 miles away.

The entire article, "Should You Represent Relatives," is online and will also appear in August print issue of Lawyers USA.

 Ethics Seminar In Oaxaca, Mexico

Legal Ethics Seminar Oaxaca Mexico Bruce A. Campbell (far right) and Dale Howe presented ethics issues to attorneys from the State Government, the Law School, and from private practice at the Ethics Seminar in Oaxaca, Mexico. On February 6-8, 2010, Bruce A Campbell and Dale C. Howe presented a seminar about ethics to a variety of audiences in Oaxaca, Mexico. Their topics included:

  • The Development of Legal Ethics in Texas
  • The Ethical Use of Demonstrative Evidence
  • Ethics in Small Businesses
  • Ethical Practices of Religious Leaders
  • Ethical Behavior for Married Men

Oaxaca continues to struggle through the transition from its tribal-warrior roots into a culture of voluntary obedience to the law. While the violence of 2006 has passed, frequent protests hinder education and commerce. The Legal Ethics presentation was originally scheduled to take place in the Law School of Oaxaca but had to be moved to the Hall of Human Rights because of a strike at the University. The strikers also blocked all traffic on the major highway through Oaxaca.

Electronic Productivity and Mobility Tools: Have You Lost Control of Your Trade Secrets?

Today, employees have a variety of electronic tools at their disposal to enhance their productivity and mobility. However, the tools which enable employees to be more productive and mobile, present legal challenges for employers who seek to retrieve from departing or former employees, confidential data or trade secrets created or stored by such tools. For an employer whose trade secret protocols or agreements have not kept pace with the growing number of electronic tools available to employees, such legal challenges can be quite formidable, says Robert G. Chadwick, Jr., in this short article which contains some illustrative examples of inadequate trade secret protection.
